I tend to stay in on New Year’s Eve.
It’s going to sound sour, but I promise it’s not. It’s just that the Eve itself never lives up to the hype for me. This could be an overall level of exhaustion that I feel individually after a long year. Or because I also put a lot of energy each year into the Christmas season which I lean into pretty heavily with lots of holiday activities.
Generally, though, I use this as a time for rest and reflection. When I am not thinking about and processing the last 364 days, I am planning ahead. Going into this new year, I have the advantage of some extra time I didn’t have before. It’s an amount of time roughly the size of a full-time day job.
Pretty great, right? Trust me, I am going to make extremely good use of it.
The Full Frame in the new year
I have naturally spent some time thinking about the future of this publication. I have gotten a lot of joy from writing it in 2024, and I plan to stay committed in 2025. I can’t say exactly how it will evolve, but I do plan to publish on more of a regular schedule. Right now, I think at least once a month is a good place to start. I have absolutely no intention of spamming your inbox.
I want to advance my writing, and I believe the best way to do this right now is to commit to writing regularly for an audience — you! I have a desire to keep growing here and to carve out a real space for peace and self-expression. Because of that, we’ll stay far away from the chaos and attention economy of social media. The original impetus to create this publication was, after all, a desire to not put all my eggs in one platform’s basket.
I truly hope you’ll find enjoyment in the photography and the stories I choose to share in the coming year.
Destinations
I never travel without a camera. In fact, I rarely leave the house without something tucked into my jacket or slung around my neck. I believe a good street photo can happen anywhere if one is just ready. While many moments get captured by chance in this way, there’s also the opportunity for me to explore interesting places further away.
I made a list of my targets for next year. While I won’t make it to all of these, some are already planned. Making such a list helps me to formalise my goals, and it might give you a little something to look forward to on here!
Copenhagen
Stockholm
New Orleans
The Maritimes
Faroe Islands
Southern France
Anywhere Türkiye
New York City (Polacon anyone?)
Return to format
During the holiday season of 2023, I worked on and completed a small family photography project using Instax film. However, the whole of my 2024 has been mostly barren of instant photography. That has been a shame. It’s a format I really enjoy shooting, especially for portraits.
I have been thinking about this a lot since bringing my Polaroid SX-70 out for a couple of nights in the city. That I once worked with this format a lot more eagerly got me a bit nostalgic and retrospective. There were clear reasons I stopped coming back to it, and I think it’s worth unpacking those here at some point in the future.
But my love for the format is clearly still alive. That’s sign enough for me to keep exploring and begin using it again for projects in the year ahead and beyond.
What else?
I’m not sure. The next year is going to be full of surprises and big challenges for me. I am more than happy to take it all as it comes and do my best to move my craft as far forward as I can. My hope is that it will in turn take me to new places and experiences.
That’s what I hope for you as well, reader — that you will carry your passions forward, and that you’ll find reward for your time, energy and heart.
Thank you for following along on here.
Happy new year.
